  1. what can cause pixalation on a dvd?

I know its not the media. I have some dvds I made about a month ago and they play fine but now anything I burn is pixalated.I have upgraded codecs since then but I'm not sure if they could cause the problem and if they can what codecs would cause it.

You can buy lens cleaning disks. Some have small brushes, others have small spongy or shammi type cleaners. I would go for that latter if you can find one.

If that doesn't work, ask your self what has changed since it last worked?

It didn't work.I had updated a few codecs since it last worked.I can't remember exactly which ones though.

What codecs should I look at first?

What is a good program for viewing what codecs are installed and that can tell me when they were installed?
