Am I as well burning one file to cdr or multis to dvdr?

I am not asking from a cost saving point of view merely from a pic/sound quality issue. My player is SVCD compatible but....

I have had some sound/skipping problems burning using the nero svcd option especially on outdoor forest scenes (seems very scene specific problem)

I wondered if I burned multi .mpg (XSVCD) using TMPGenc dvd author would this be more friendly to my standalone player?

OK TMPGEnc dvd author doesn't like these files and gives the following error messages when I try to select the source files -

    -------------------------------------------------------
THe video resolution 480 x480 cannot be used for a standard dvd

The video framerate 29.97 cannot be used with the resolution 480 x 480

The video bitrate 15000 kbps is too high for a standard dvd

The video GOP is too long
    -----------------------------------------------------

Any other program cope with these problems or would it be simpler to burn to cdr (Nero) using svcd option?

Best SVCD authoring app is VCDEasy. As you've noticed, TDA is for authoring DVD, not SVCD.
But as you carefully write XSVCD - what's "X" about it? Usually X denotes something out of specifications (the SVCD specs in this case) - What if you keep within specs - does your player still choke?

THanks for reply - As I say only only on some scenes - on one file every time the video cut to an outdoor forest scene the image and sound would freeze then start every 2 secs or so - virtually every other scene in the video file was fine. I am sure the original source file on my pc was fine.

I think I'll try burning with vcdeasy.

It would be nice to collect all 5 filesonto one dvd though but if its going to be a time consuming hassle with dubious results then...

    bitrate looks mighty high anyway

At the high bitrate you indicate you will always have problems on playback. The loader in the DVD player is simply not capable of reading such a high bitrate. Your going to have to rduce the bitrate if you want it to play normally.

    Thanks again

I am convinced its a problem with the amount of info onscreen and the format (SVCD).

The scenes I mentioned i.e. forest scene has lots of motion from all the foliage and I don't think SVCD can handle so much going on. No othere scenes exhibit problems on a 42 minute file.

How can I easily reduce the bitrate anyway?
