    Hello

I have a movie whose bitrate is larger than 8000.
I need to get the bitrate set to 8000 or less.

Can anyone please tell me how to do this step by step?
Since im a newbie on this, i find many on the tutorials a bit confusing, and therefore prefer "living" people to help me.

I have a dvd movie on a dvd-r ( legal backup of previously bought movie).

What programs should i use, and briefly how shouuld i use them to get the bitrate i want? Aftter having changed the bitrate, how do i get all the files back to a new dvd-r again, playable on my standalone dvd-player.

Would really appreciate if someone could walk me through this, step by step.

    Best regards:

Convert the DVD back to MPEG file(s) using https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833#tmpgencdvdauthorereauthor .

Re-encode the MPEG file(s) to MPEG file(s) but using a lower bitrate using htt://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm .

Author new DVD using your favorite authoring software.
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVD Shrink and reduce the target size. No need to demux, reauthor etc.

That's perfect if he wants to reduce the file size only to make it fit a disc. I'm not sure but I think he might be wanting to reencode at a lower bitrate for whatever the reason. He did not explain why. In that case, DVD to MPG to Encoder and back to whatever.

    I think!!

    Thanx for reply.
I will try using Tmpgenc to do this, even though i havent managed to find out how i do it earlier.
But, i wonder..what is the difference between Constant Bitrate and Variable Bit Rate?
If i want a movie not to get a higher bitrate than 8000 in any part of the movie, should i then choose 8000 cbr instead of 8000 vbr.
Are there any disadvantages in using cbr ?

For VBR, 8000 as max should work, but if you have the space, 8000 CBR will be even better.

Forgot to mention - TMPGEnc can't open m2v without help. But since you have PowerDVD, TMPGEnc should be able to utilize the mpeg2 decoder of PowerDVD, or you could use the mp2 plugin for TMPGEnc (see tools).

What about setting their priority(ies) higher under Option > Environmental Setting > VFAPI plug-in ?

Or using DGMPGDec (or DGIndex or DVD2AVI) to create a d2v file and load it that way ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hello

    Thanx for the reply.

I have tried setting their priorities to max, without that helping anything im afraid.

Has not tried your other suggestion, might try that.

But, isnt it any easier way changing the bitrate to a dvd-r movie?
That is what this is all about.

    I have a dvd-r movie with a bitrate of 8500.
I want to change the bitrate to 8000 for the whole movie.

What is the easiest way to do this?
    Appreciate any help.

The ONLY way you can change the bitrate is to re-encode, and that requires an encoder. I hate to say it (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) but you gotta be doing something wrong - it's not as hard as you're making it seem.

So why do you need to lower the bitrate 500kbps ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hello

I also think i must be doing something wrong, i just cant figure out exactly what im doing wrong.

Could you please educate me on how i proceed after having demuxed the dvdr-movie?

I used dvd-decrypter to demux the video and the ac3-file.
    As a result i get 4 m2v-files and one ac3-file.

I dont know what program to use, in order to set the wanted bitrate in the 4 m2v-files.
Could u please educate me on the best program ( and the easiest i hope...) to use, in order to be able to set the wanted bitrate on the 4 m2v-files ? Would apperciate if you could do this, and tell me in a very thorough way how i should use the program to do it?
( The guides here i find a lot confusing)

I want to change the bitrate, because i need the bitrate under 8000 in order to be able to watch the movie on my standalone dvd-player without getting choppy picture and sound.

You can use a transcoder such as rejig or shrink to reduce bitrate - just choose a target size that forces the bitrate down to the correct amount. Lower bitrate = smaller file size. It is using these programs backwards, but the outcome will be the same, and with a lot less headaches than you are currently having.

If you want to keep going the hard way, try loading your m2v files into virtualdubmpeg and frameserving to tmpgenc.

    I am very confused here!

Just WHY was it you wanted to reduce the bit rate in the first place. When one considers that reducing bit rate generally will tend to reduce overall quality, all things being equal.

Again, WHY are you doing this?? Just wondering as you seem to be going through a very painfull process to achieve this and I simply can't see why!

    To gunslinger:
you wnated me to use virtualdummpeg. How do i use this program to set the bitrate? Can u please tell he how to do this thoroughly ?

What did u mean by freamserverving? And, did you want me to use tmpgenc also? In what way?
