I find it odd that prices affected other countries on gas & oil we don't even export.

That's what happens when you don't have enough oil refineries.

Maybe in South America, but we have plenty of refineries in the US. Remember the over 300,000 job layoffs at refineries in the US when they capped off a whole butt load of oil wells back in the early to mid 90's.

    We got refineries.

To go into it further, we'd have to shift this to the Politick forums.

any excuse to stick the prices up. People here in my region have been panic buying petrol as some think we will have another protest about the fuel prices.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/924574.stm

Some places have been charging over £1 ($1.80) per litre!

it's ******* ridiculous now as we pay far too much

Does that meet the US safety criteria, because I might need to get one of those myself.

Nicknamed the "rolling egg", the BMW 250, 300, 600 and Isetta cars were designed at a time when cheap, short distance transportation was needed.

In classic understatement, BMW ads for the USA called the car "a new conception in vehicle design."

The cars have a one-cylinder BMW motorcycle engine with a 4-speed transmission. The top speed is 53 mph, and it gets 63 miles per gallon.

In 1958 you could buy one for $1,093
    even Elvis drove in one

I guess the gas prices have affected shipping companies like FEDX & UPS. I ordered some items from Newegg.com this morning, chose UPS 2day shipping at $18.71 but ended up cancelling the order because I needed to order something else that was back instock at Newegg. I was at the stage that I could not add to my order. I had gotten a auto notify email that the item was back instock but my order had already gone to the warehouse.

Tonight I decided to place my order again with everything that I need and noticed how the shipping prices have gone way up compared to 6:00 a.m. this morning. Whew! I'm happy to see that Newegg now uses UPS as another option to ship to Honolulu, Hawaii. At least we have the 5-7 business days ground shipping option with UPS compared to FEDX 2 day shipping which I've been using because there was no other option for Hawaii.

We have a stupid PRICE CAP on gas here in Hawaii. I don't freaking understand why we have a PRICE CAP when our oil comes from Alaska and Asia. We have 2 refineries here in Honolulu, Hawaii. "Public Utilities Commission has the power to periodically monitor wholesale prices to make sure companies do not exceed the cap, but the commission keeps that confidential." That was taken from our local newspaper. Our PRICE CAP is based on gas prices in California, New York and Florida. Some say it was bad timing for the PRICE CAP to become law. We have always paid the highest prices on gasoline compared to the other 48 states.

Isn't there a car called the PEEL. All I remember is it was so small it didn't have a reverse gear and topped out around 65MPH. The solid wheels made it too bumpy to drive and if you had inflatable wheels it was too erratic to drive, but it was still considered "street legal". It reminded me of my kid's Fisher Price 'Lil Coupe', only with an engine.

Now is that the toy or the car? :P
Damn, that thing is small. Looks like it's meant more for parking lot security than driving around the neighborhood. You'd still need a flasher on a pole or someone would back over you. Sturdier vehicles are used on golf courses.

Still the gas mileage on those things is phenominal. I remember the 2 person trident the site links to as well. Saw them up in Canada around the Ripley's & Guiness museums in Niagara Falls years back. Anyone in the UK know if people still drive them?

Given the exhaust coming out of that thing, assuming it was marketed today, I'd hate to try to get that past emission control inspectors (grin). And can you imagine the terror of driving that thing on a pitch-black night on a country road ... only to have the single headlight burn out? I imagine car thieves with pickup trucks would love it, though (grin).

Here's one that at least has 2 headlights (or appears to):
