  1. I recently bought a standalone DVD recorder (with VCR) and a DVD burner for my PC. I have been reading the how-tos on this site about how to edit DVDs and I am still not sure I got it right.
What I would like to be able to do is transfer my VHS tapes to DVD and make some changes along the way, like adding menus and cutting out some scenes.
I have managed to create a test DVD and do almost all of that thanks to the people that contribute to this wonderful website and share their knowledge and experiences, but I am not sure I need to do all I am doing or if I am missing something and if there are any simpler ways of doing this.
Please post your comments on the procedure I use and suggest any improvements/shortcuts.

This is how I do/plan on doing it:
    1. Record VHS onto DVD on my standalone DVD rec
    2. Demux video and audio from the VOB files onto my computer using VOBEdit
    3. Cut out undesired scenes using <??? - insert your suggestion here please>
    4. Add chapter marks and menus using DVDauthorGUI
    5. Author DVD using DVDauthorGUI
    6. Burn DVD using Nero

Your suggestions and help are much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  2. What you suggest will work if you don't have macrovision copy protection on your tapes. For cutting your demuxed files try Cutterman, it's freeware are works well for me. Nyah Levi

  4. What reboot said, thats what I use to do the same thing except I use Rejig for demuxing and DVD Lab Pro for authoring.

Your right on track! dont do anything different except a better authoring program. DVD Lab is a great program, just ask reboot.

  5. Thank you guys for your suggestions. As I'm going along I am coming up with new questions like - is there a freeware program that has some transition effects built in? Also, when I cut video with Cuttermaran do I need to cut audio separately?
    Thanks again for your help!!

  6. As in video, your windows movie maker can do that. Menus, your authoring program. As for Cuttermaran, it cuts video and audio at the same time, do not worry.
