  1. I have two dvd drives, one a burner, and an extra machine lying around. I got ot thinking it would be sweet if i could build an automatic dvd duplicator.

So what i want to know is does anyone have any advice on software to use? Ideally i would like to be able to to put in the dvd to copy and a blank disk and have it copy automatically, with compression if needed. Perhaps this is a pipe dream, nonetheless worth a shot.
So does anyone know of anysoftware out there that does anything similar? If not, any sujestions on good dvd rippers that are mostly automated (1 or two clicks)
I am comfortable going the windows or linux route.
    Thanks for any advice.

What TooLFooL said. You can't get much easier. You may need DVDDecrypter or the newer DVDFab Decrypter to backup some DVDs before you use Shrink. Nero can also use multiple burners.

The best setup for backing up DVDs is a DVD ROM to read and a separate DVD burner. That way you don't have to switch discs around. You can also use DVDDecrypter to burn if you don't have Nero. Some people report better results with it.

For a duplicator, use RecordNow Max, save a template, and stick the PXJ file in your startup folder. The computer should have NOTHING ELSE running, no anti-virus, no Internet, nothing.

The computer quickly boots, auto-launches RNM, and all you have to do is click the burn icon.

As far as auto-shrinking, no, you're screwed. Pipe dream here.
