One of my web design clients wants streaming WMV video on his site - have never done this before. He's supplied with DVDR copies of his movies, so I guess I need to rip and encode to WMV.
1. What's the best software for, if possible, simultaneous ripping and encoding of DVD to WMV?
2. Is there a specific resolution/compression I use suitable for WMV streaming?
Thanks!

You could try http://www.divx-digest.com/software/moviepro.html
(it doesn't work here...crashes every time)
Or try tmpgenc xpress, it should support dvd-video input and wmv output but I have never tried it.
Or convert the dvd to mpg, https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833 , and use windows media encoder.
check windows media encoder for resolutions and compression. -

2.I would use 320x240/700kbps video/64kbps audio for general purpose video(ie. speech) or dial up.Use 640x480/1500 video/128 audio for high quality video(ie. fast motion, music or high detail) or LAN,DSL,cable.
