I have several MPEG video clips that I need to cut parts out of. I'm using VirtualDub because it seems very easy to me. Plus it's a program I already had.... anyway... After I cut the portion I want out, I have to click "Save as .Avi" to save the new edited version. But I don't want my video in .avi format. I'd like to just keep them in MPEG. How can I do this?
And on a seperate, just curious, note. The original unedited MPEG is like 70MB, but the new edited .avi file is like 1.2G! WTF?

You can in fact save out to MPEG in virtualdub, by using YMPEG. It's not free though, and IMHO it's kinda beside the point ....Originally Posted by lumis

thats a different/non-free program.. thats like someone from arizona asking if they can drive (save) their car (virtualdub) to the bahamas (mpeg).. i say no, not possible.. you say yes, but you have to have an airplane (ympeg)..Originally Posted by jimmalenko

YMPEG is used as a codec from within Virtualdub.
I said that it's not free, and IMHO it's a waste of time, but the point is that it can in fact be done. Basically you're paying for the codec to use from within virtualdub (or your favorite encoder) - not a different program.
... and to continue your analogy, provided your airplane has car-carrying capabilities, then sure, why not ?
What more do you want ?
If in doubt, Google it. -
That's because it only clips at I frames. This is common for editing mpeg without re-encoding.
