Hi naloryder!
Welcome to the world of VCD!!
First up, it could be that your DVD player just isn't up to the task of VCD playback - check the compatibility list (left menu <-- ). Also, it maybe faulty.
If I were you I'd rush off a quick email to Daewoo tech support and check what the exact specs are on your model.
After that you can reply on this forum giving more details about how you encoded and burnt your VCD (eg.Settings used on what software etc).
It could be that your using a video bit rate which is too high for your DVD player - ie. you made a non-standard VCD.
This could make your DVD playback jumpy (but I've never heard of the jumps coming as far apart as 10mins!)
One bit of (obvious) final advise is to make sure you're using a correct VCD template in TMPGenc (either NTSC or PAL as appropriate).
Hope this helps a bit.
Speak soon,
Sue. -
thankx for your help sue.......sorry i took so long to write back its just that this is my third time writing because i didnt know my last two messages were not sent....but here it goes......i check the compatiblity list and it does say that the daewoo is capable of playing vcds and stuff.......howener i did not e-mail the company because i do not know what to ask them(didnt know what you meant by specs?).......the program i used to encode the file was tmpge and here are the details about my avi....audio format - MPEG Layer-3,55 kBit/s, 22,050 Hz, Stereo.....video format - 352 x 238, 24 Bits, 78387 Frames, 29.970 Frames/Sec, 39 KB/Sec, DIVXMPG4 V3........so in tmpge....under video i used high resolution(slow).....and under advance source aspect ratio i put vga 1:1 and under video arrangement method i chose custom center 352 by 205 pixels......i did not change nothing else......the template i loaded was videocd(pal).....im pretty sure that was the one i was suppose to choose.....and i use easy cd creator 5 to burn the mpeg.......i went add item.....dragged it to the other side and then creat cd form layout.....i then chose track at once and finalize cd then hit record.....i hope this information is useful to find out what im doing wrong or what is wrong with my vcds and thankx again for helping me out........i hope this one gets sent

It seems you have created a noncompliant VCD. Below are the specs I got from Phillips...
Video: MPEG-1 at 1.15 mbps, PAL (25fps) 352x288, NTSC (I am not sure about the frame rate but it should be either 23.97fps or 29.97fps) 352x240.
Sound: MPEG-1,Layer II at 224kbps and 44.1 kHz.
Hope you can make some use of these specs to fix your VCD encoding...It looked to me as you where trying to encode an AVI with the wrong resolution and wrong sampling frequency as well as wrong framerate 29.97 in a PAL vcd will not work...

yo bacardi thankx 4 ur help........so i have a question......i opened my avi and went to view and statistics and the frame rate is 29.97 and the actual rate is 28.04.....so which template should i use?....and if i want to change the way the video looks by making custom center which source output should i use? if u could help me out on this i would really appreacite it......thankx
-
I would probably use a template for NTSC 29.97 fps since this seams to be the easiest way of keeping the A/V sync intact. But if your stand-alone player can't play NTSC VCDs or your TV can't display them, then you will have to try and convert the AVI to PAL which I'm not to familiar with. When it comes to source out put, I'm sorry but I don't have a clue what you are talking about.
By the way check the guides at http://www.doom9.org if you haven't already.
Good Luck -
thankx again for helping me out......and sorry i meant source aspect ratio not source output.........sorry for the mixup.....so if you know which ratio to use could you please let me know......thankx
-
I would try to set the following:
input - 1:1 VGA and center (customsize)352x238
output - 4:3 NTSC
But I'm not sure how this will look so you might have to playaround with the input and try 4:3 and different videoarrange methods....
Hope you will be able to make some sense of this....
