  1. Need some advice on this one...

Has anyone used TMPGenc for this? Which filters do you typically use? Just curious.

It might help if you would indicate what your sys specs are, and
also the laserdisc player you have.

Also, what your capture card/device is, and which connection are
you using, Composite or S-Video connections.

IMHO, applying any kind of filtering during the editing or encoding
stage should be a last resort. So, if there are issues with your
current setup, it might help first, to describe what you consider
a good reason to apply filters. I note this, because laserdisc
should not require any filtering since it is pretty clean to begin
    with.
    .
And, about the only problem you have to worry about, is with what
is usually found in laserdisc movies, "dot-crawl".
    .
And, to minimize such, would require to capture using Composite
connections. But, your mileage will vary from capture card to
capture card, and from connection to connection, and from laserdisc
player to laserdisc player. Its been my experience that some
players do better at minimizing "dot-crawl" than others. Only
a battery of tests, can one be sure. But, even then, there will
problably be nothing further you can do, else you apply "filters"

  6. just about had all brands of laser disc players, the Pioneers seemed the best if you stay in their 500, 700 and 900 series players, their low end just like all other brands at the entry level had a crap picture.
my second choice if you can find one is a sony.
Myself, don't see much use any more to transfer LD's only one I still have cause it will never be released again, is Disneys Song of the South, everything else has been released on DVD.

take 15-hours for 1.5-hours movie without filter.
if you use noise reduction filter maybe take 20-30-hours.
if you have more than 365 laserdisc maybe take 1-year to encode it. so thinking about dvd-recorder that have good feature, my ref: pioneer, jvc, sony, for choose i'm still have problem.

  8. All of my laserdiscs have material that will never be released on DVD. That's what I'm transferring and making "special editions" of.

This is actually my second laserdisc player but for the life of me, I can't remember what model # it is. I'll have to check when i get home from work.
