Is it just me or do none of the most recent versions of FFDSHOW work with TMPGEnc? I just did a clean install of windows, downloaded the most recent version and got the "can not open or unsupported" message in TMPGEnc. At first I didn't even consider it could be FFDSHOW so I checked that I had DirectShow at the top of the VFAPI plug-in list, tried an older AVI that I knew had worked before... Then I found the site below and tried every recent version back to 20050312 and not one of them past 20050527 worked with TMPGEnc though they all worked with media player.

How do you know that it isn't the other way around? Seems to me that TMPGEnc's dshow input module isn't the greatest. If ffdshow works via wmp, graphedit, etc. then I would say that it works fine.
I'll see if I have time to take a look tonight, if anyone has a confirmed reproducable problem with ffdshow, they should really file a bug report over at sf. Otherwise Milan won't know about it and it won't get fixed. -

Ok, just tried and it works fine here. Anyone else want to see if they can replicate the problem?

I have got the same problem. I got a track01.avi out from a matroska file, that is encoded with H.264. I installed the celtic_druid ffdshow latest version and set to 3 its priority in Tmpgenc. It was fine, and I converted the avi to dvd (.m2v).
From then, Tmpgenc wont open anymore any "conventional" avi.
This does not make any sense to me.
I will appreciate any idea about this.
Best regards. -
I mean I set a higher priority level for Ffdshow in Environmental setting – VFAPI plugin in Tmpgenc Option, as it is said on every forum I read.
https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems
I increased it to 3, since on 2 I got the message file can not open or unsupported.
Doing so I converted my H.264 avi, but no other avi is supported by Tmpgenc unless I uninstall Ffdshow and install back an older version.
I guess it’s about of how to configure VFW codec and/or video and audio codec configuration in Ffdshow…. But there are too many combinations. How do you configure that? Could you please post some screenshots?

Sorry sorry sorry. Right now I see I wanted to say DirectShow file reader....
Sorry

Hi,
I too am having issues with ffsdhow and TMPGenc. The TMPGenc DirectShow interface seems quite happy with other DIVX, XVID and AC3 Codecs, however when I install FFDSHOW TMPGenc is unable to access either video or audio (depends on which version of FFDSHOW I install.)
I have used Gspot to confirm which codecs are being used, and the problems occur when FFDSHOW is used.
I note that WMP is quite happy with the codecs from FFDSHOW which suggests to me that FFDSHOW is compliant.
TMPGenc and DVD Author are my tool's of choice for creating DVD Video (plus I have paid over $100 cash for the licenses) so I would be keen to see the two play nicely together.
I have mailed the TMPGenc developers a few days ago to see if they can look in to this .. nothing back yet.
Can anyone identify where the compatibility issue is, and perhaps create a "TMPGenc bug workaround" checkbox in FFDSHOW to solve the problem (I realise there is more too it than that ...) ? -

It feels almost good to see there are other people with the same problem.

Got my reply from TMPGenc support .... did not help .... I give up.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your mail.

The problem is not the bug, but TMPGEnc are not support this CODEC at all.
So if you want to read it to TMPGEnc, the only way is decode via VFAPI and DirectShow, but we will be unable to guarantee the result.
If there is bug, it will be the bug of DirectShow of Microsoft.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact with us.
