Sluggish cursor behaviour in Vegas 6a

Hi all...
A small but annoying thing happens when I load a Vegas project and mouse over the master output fader to adjust the stereo level. With the cursor over the fader slider knobs, the knobs appear 'greyed out' for about two seconds before they become active and change to a darker color.

I'm using a PC, XP Home and a Logitech USB Marble Mouse trackball. The trackball has no special drivers installed other than XP's defaults. It only has this 2 sec delay in Vegas. Other apps faders perform flawlessly.

Any ideas anyone?

So far have re-installed Vegas and .net framework & update.

To add to my original post:

When I create an empty Vegas project, the sluggish fader problem is gone. Instant response.
