Have you read the user reviews on these models by clicking the DVD recorders link on the left of this page? It is unusual for someone to have experience with those three recorders so they could accurately compare them.

Also, I recommend downloading and reading the user manuals. That's how I was able to choose my Pioneer.

  4. Have a close look at the new Pioneer hard drive units (DVR-531H, 533H, 633H). Very well thought out, great performance, lots of input picture controls to tweak the image before capturing, dual layer -R burning capability... etc.

    Search the forum.
Panasonic is not a great picture quality.
And it depends on who made the Sharp.
LG should be fine, similar to JVC.

But you should also look into JVC and Pioneer equipment too.

Thanks a lot for all references but I red manuals before posting. And in fact, I meant a bit different matters. Such as for instance quality. That's why I wanted to hear some people who has experience with shortlisted trades and models. How easy to manage them, combine with other technics, quality of picture. Otherwise, which manual will describe own product as not the best? But there are so big difference in reality and manual sometimes...

Ok, I will try to put question under another angle. I'm going to copy my VHSs with sport matchs on dvds and also record new matchs. Based on that information and also that I would love to keep the matchs with qood quality picture without any disturbance, which dvd recorder with harddisc would you recommend for that?

  8. You might want to check out this thread. As you can see, the path to a decision is not always very straight and includes a degree of subjectivity.

More less clear, thanks. It seems that Lordsmurf has permanent problems with Panasonic. He is always against that trade, why???

  10. The instructive thing about that thread is not about the recorders but that there are many legitimate points of view. The hard part is discovering what your own is. There are people who have examined these and other brands and agree with Lordsmurf. Why not check his recommendations? There is a possibility that you and he share the same point of view.

  11. I have :-

panasonic, built like a tank, but not great picture quality

    Daytek-great picture quality,build quality suspect

    RJ tech - as above.

Toshiba, overall best of those I have.

If I were to buy another(Whats with this guy is he a dvd junkie-YES!), a pioneer or JVC would be my thought.

Thanks, after clicking on that link site displays the following message: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005' Invalid procedure call or argument: 'root.appendchild'/manuals/manuals.asp, line 155
But I think I found the same site with several manuals on different languages, so that thanks anyway.
Now another question: whether anyone knows if I can and how transfer what I recorded on HD to DVD? I checked Manual,no words about that...

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the Pioneer DVR-531H and the DVR-533H. The both seem the same........

  15. The 533 has a DV in/out. Gshelley61 tested the quality of the capture from the DV input in this thread. It is not the best.

  16. The 533 is DV in (not in/out like the 10 and 20 series models... )

The new Pioneers are nice, but if you need DV input, there are better machines for that purpose.

That is why some of us have to make our own decisions, some reviews aren't fair. I personally own both Panasonic and JVC, for my own tastes I prefer the Panasonic because it has more vivid color and does not soften the detail in sharp areas.

I must admit that the JVC is a good machine (when it works). The JVC does not show true dark areas in the video, it has more of a resin black. The Pansonic beats the JVC in overall true color and sharpness in my opinion.

I will admit that the Panasonic suffers from macro blocks and noisy artifacts when captures are longer than 2 hrs ( but only in extremely fast moving areas). The JVC hides it better, but in doing so removes quite a bit of image detail.

Both machines are good, what matters is your taste.
    Do unto others....with a vengeance!
