I have a bunch of movies that I want to put on dvd...i got everything set out and everything worked out fine EXCEPT!!!...the audio/video were out of sync!!...why cant dvd lab demux the mpg files properly???...i even tried demuxing the mpgs with other progtams (such as PVAStrumento) but the audio/video is still out of sync when it compiles!!
WHAT DO I DO??
are there any other programs that can help me?

You most likely have files that have some dropped video frames in them. Due to padding, the files will play fine, but go out of sync when authoring. Try editing them in VideoReDo first. That program can save the padding that keeps them in sync. If that fails, you are out out luck. Files capped from video tape have this sort of problem much of the time. a TBC can prevent frame drops when capping.

Are the elementary streams in sync after demuxing? You may test this with Mpeg2Schnitt or cuttermaran. You may also try to demultiplex with projectX. IMHO it has the best "keep in sync" algorithm for mpeg files (i.e. for dvb)

Hi,
I've developed the same problem with motion menus.
I've had this before, but usually shutting down and restarting cures it. Not this time though.
The audio and video on motion menus remain a good 1-1.5 second out. If I then rejoin the demuxed files with Tempgenc, they play perfectly. Compile, and they are out of sync again.
Anyone got any ideas?

DVD Lab Pro (and I assume the lesser version DVD lab) contains an audio delay option. Try using it to adjust the audio so it syncs to the video.

wow...k here is waht i did...it is VERY wierd and i dont know how it worked...but it did...
1. I demuxed the original mpg clips in dvd lab to mpv and mpa files
(those files were off by 5-15 seconds when shown in dvd lab)
2. I imported the corresponding audio and video files one at a time into muxman to convert to a vob
3. each vob is completely in sync and works fine
4. i demuxed the synced vobs in dvd lab and the times were perfect!!
but now when i opened the videos (both the original demuxed and the on demuxed after muxman) in cuttermaran they are all in sync. Why are they in sync in cuttermaran and not dvd lab??
and what is a good program to join mpv and mpa files? because i cant compile properly using the movie segmants in dvd lab so i will have to join the demuxed files
also i will try the videoredo method soon and update you on the situation -
Did you burn a test from DVDLab, and see if it's in sync?
What DVDLab reports (audio is 4 or 5 seconds longer than video), doesn't mean it's out of sync.Cheers, Jim

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that. It appears (I am about to do a compile on the full DVD) that a correction of -500ms does the trick!
Now then, I've just noticed that I normally link both the Title and first play button to the First Play video. Now the title button is linking wherever it likes, and I cannot manually change it. Any ideas about that?

my problem was solved!!...heres what i did:
1. I took the separated mpg files and joind all of them into one movie again using vegas
2. demuxed the files using PVAStrumento (if you use those mpa and mpv files it goes out of sync)
3. re-muxed them with muxman
4. let dvd-lab demux the vobs from stem 3.
it worked perfectly...i guess muxman fixes the dropped frame problem when it muxes the files!!
thanks for all of your help ppl -
Ive had similar experiences myself, and is very frustrating. I have a method that I use to process MPEG2 files from my DirecTivo, its long and a little laborous, but I get *perfect* results every time, both in picture and sync.
Glad to see your fixed!

Apparently, there are different Mux timing rates out there which differ from eachother by a few milliseconds. I don't know why or how this is so, I just remember reading about it recently somewhere. I'm not sure which programs mux which rates, but I do know that dvdlab uses the same one as tmpgenc.
The file you obtained was most likely muxed with a program that set an alternate mux rate. When dvdlab tried to correct the rate, the sound went out of sinc. When you demuxed and remuxed in tmpgenc, nothing was changed or rewritten so the old mux rate was kept and tmpgenc's standard mux rate was not used.
Because you later joined several files, all the audio/video sync information had to be rewritten (by whatever program you used) and when you demuxed and remuxed them, you were able to write a new mux rate. Apparently that was the same rate as dvdlab's.
Another choice you might have had is to not have dvdlab demux at all. Go to Project tab> Project properties> Options tab> and set demultiplex options to "always ask" or "use without demultiplexing". Then import your assetts and continue, but this would only be allowed if your files follow dvd standard specs. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this option but it might work for you in a pinch.
