  1. Hi,
I have a bunch of mpegs at 352x288 (PAL) MPEG1 resolution with a bitrate of ~1800. I want to stuff the all on to a DVD (NTSC). Should I convert them to 352x240 MPEG2 or 720x480 MPEG2? What is recommended? Does it really matter? I use ULEAD MF3 for DVD authoring.

    Thanks!

They are dvd compliant as-is, author away.

Not that simple, they need to be converted from PAL to NTSC 352x240, audio may need to be converted as well.

My DVD player (Pioneer) plays back pal. You might want to try and find a player that will play pal as well b/c converting pal to ntsc is a PIA.

  5. Thanks for all the feedback guys. So it sounds like as long as have my audio DVD compliant, 352x240 MPEG2 is a good choice? I have SW that will do MEPG conversion and can handle 352x288 MPEG1 to 352x240 MPEG2 (and make the audio compliant)

If you wanted to leave them PAL, then it's an easy conversion. If you put them into TMPGEnc DVD Author, I believe it will convert the sound to 48K and author the files to PAL DVD spec. If you want to convert them to NTSC, that is a fair bit more complicated, as stated.

Never used it specifically for that, but VSO DivxToDVD might work for the conversion from PAL to DVD NTSC. It would certainly be easier.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that all you have to do is change the framesize to convert from PAL to NTSC as it requires a framerate conversion as well, so you'd have to make adjustments to the audio whether it was already at 48K or not.
