  1. HI
I just made a DVD every thing is working fine except one thing

When I play the DVD on my computer I can see the complete image of the video Put when i play it on my 4:3 TV I can see about only 3/4 of it missing all the extrimity of the image

I convert the video using Tmpgenc to a video format 352x480

here is an example of what i can see on the computer using a dvd player and on my home dvd player on my tv

Can anyone tell me what i should do to have the complete image on my tv ?

yes - make them in the correct size (the menus) , as for the video - it is normal to not see all of it ..

  5. If you can gain access to the service menu for your TV, you can adjust the amount of the overscan. That can be dangerous though, unless you know what you're doing.

Or you can add black borders around your videos when encoding so the complete video shows

    make your menu 640 x 400 in a 720x480 frame

you could make your video the same size -- but not all tvs overscan the same and sometimes you will have borders ..

When you encode your video, add borders. There are many ways to do this, and it depends on your software as to which is best for you. The simplest way is to use avisynth and let FitCD create a script for you that adds the borders and resizes. Load this script into Tmpgenc and encode.

When you are making menus, add the borders yourself - generally 16 or 32 pixels all the way round should suffice.

You need to understand though that this happens to every TV show you watch. It always has. Most editing software, and most decent authoring software as well, will have a facility to overlay a title safe and action safe frame. The action safe area will be seen on most TVs, but how much varies. The title safe area will be seen on all but the most poorly made TVs. Learn to use them if you have them.

768x576 represents square pixel 4:3 PAL
640x480 represents square pixel 4:3 NTSC

Current pro level digital video (e.g. DV, DVD MPeg2, Digital Betacam, etc.) always uses non-square pixels each of which differ in horizontal size for 4:3 vs. 16:9 aspect ratios.

    720x576 for PAL
    720x480 for NTSC

  11. Since you have TMPGEnc and want a Half D1 frame size:

Go to Settings, Advanced. Set Video Arrange Method to Center (custome size). Set the dimensions to 320x524.

Back on the Video tab make sure the video size is still 352x576. Encode to MPEG2.

This will shrink the picture to 320x524, add 16 pixel wide borders on the left and right, and 26 pixel wide borders to the top and bottom. Now the black borders will be in the overscan area and more of the picture will be visible.
