I pay for all my software and media...having been a PC guy Itunes is new to me....songs come in different formats, right, like mp3, aif, and others...I just bought Quicktimes latest update so I could save/export Itune songs I buy, and old mp3s to AIF (initially) for my audio timeline. When I try to export an Itune purchase it won't let me because of the protection. Am I doing it wrong, or do I have to do a work around, like burn it to a cd first or use hijack (if legal) or should I get my music from another source, like Music Match. I don't want to break any rules.

I shouldnt just drag any old format in FCP unless its the same as the other songs right?

    Thank You,

    Mark

You're right, because of the DRM protection, you can't convert songs you buy from the iTunes Music Store (or any other music download store). You'll have to burn them to CD and rip them in the format you want.

And your right Mark, you should to make it easier
on yourself when you get ready to run the FCP
project through to Compressor before final output to DVDSP,
have all the audio ( and VIDEO) tracks be the same format,
as it will cut down on headaches and time .

I thought Apple restricted iTMS files to Apple-only apps (incl. FCP)? Are you using files you have rights to use? In other words, are you using music files from a friend? If so, you'll have to authorize your computer to use those files via iTunes.

well, i chose to convert them to aifs before putting them in the timeline.....and since they came out of itunes music store in many formats, I have been told to convert them before FCP so they are all aifs, (until terryj brought a.pack to my attention so that I will eventuially convert the final exported aif file to ac3 (is that right) which is better....in conclusion i think i was told not to mix formats of audio in timeline.

Correct...in FCP, DO NOT MIX audio files in the timeline. DO NOT MIX video files in the timeline.
    COMPRESSOR WILL FREAK OUT.

and for Final input to DVDSP3, yes AC3 is what you want
to shoot for on your audiom, and A.Pack will do that.
