I'm sorry if i posted in the wrong forum as i really don't know where this should go.
Any, here is my problem.
I have a psp and it's screen size is 480x272, which is 16:9.
i have movies(from dvd) that i want to convert for the psp. And the problem is they are all bordered with black on top and on the bottom.
Now the thing all dvds out today are in the 720x480 format. 720x480 is neither 16x9 nor 4x3, and yet it's used to represent both, depending on whether the video is anamorphic or not (respectively).
So the question is, I wanted to crop out the black for the 16:9 )non-anomorphic movies)so that when i play the file it will use up the whole
screen and not have the borders.
To complicate things the psp will not allow you to record anything to it's full resolution which is 480x272. So I am using 368x208 for that.
So how do i go about cutting the borders out? meaning do i have to change the resolution? What do i need to do? What is the formula if there is one?

I can't offer you a complete answer to your questions, but I can mention after reading a section of my Adobe Encore DVD User Guide, that fullscreen NTSC DVDs use a "pixel" aspect ratio of 0.9 and widescreen NTSC is a 1.22 pixel aspect ratio. So, for fullscreen, you multiply the 0.9 by 720 to get 648. The ratio of 648 to 480 is 1.35 and is almost identical to a 4:3 ratio.
I'm not sure how that will help you. I personally find the comparison between screen aspect ratios and pixel aspect ratios confusing.Tools used: ScenalyzerLive 4.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional, Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, IFOedit 0.96, DVD-lab PRO 1.53, Adobe Audition 2.0 -
here's another thing i don't get. No Movies in the theater are ever matted. It doens't matter if it anomorphic or not. And theater movie screen ever changes size. So a movie fits and looks fine on the movie screen. Yet when they transfer it that's not so anymore
