I'm having problems with my Samsung camcorder.
The charger does not charge the camera.
I've forked out money and bought a new charger, but no joy.
I can charge the battery separetely and the camcorder works fine.
When I put the power lead into the camcorder, it turns the camcorder off.
I didn't where to ask for help, so I thought I'd try in here.
Any suggestions or pointers would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

It sounds as if you've a bad power adapter. Any chance it is still under warranty? If not, maybe you can buy a 3rd party AC adapter and try that.
It could also be a fault in the camcorder's internal power supply for the AC circuit, but let's hope that's not the case, right?
Post back and let us know, ok?
Thanks!

thanks for the reply. i wasn't sure if this place was the right place to ask...
i thought i had somehow managed to break the old adapter.
so i ordered a brand new one.
same problem.
do u think i should try a new one?
the samesung camcorders have a square input...
so i'm not sure if i can use a universal adapter??
internal power supply?
erm... if it is that... how will i know?
and if so... then how might it have got damaged??
(the problem is that the camcorder is someone elses... i use dit once... fine no problem. used it second time... and it wouldn't work.)
let me know what you think.
thanks. -
Hi OM2,
I'm thinking that ether the connector inside the camcorder has gone bad, or that maybe the internal circuitry for the power coupler has gone bad.
The fact that you can charge a battery externally and use it in the camcorder says the internal circuitry outside of the power connector appears to be functional. But now when you hook up the original AC adapter, and even the new AC adapter you've purchased, you get no power and no battery charging capability.
Therefore, I'm thinking that either the connector inside the cam itself is shot, or the circuitry somewhere in there is.
Was this unti plugged into an outlet that may have taken a surge/spike in power somewhere? Do you use surge protectors where you plug this cam in?
I hope the cam isn't damaged, especially since it is a loaner, but only a call to the manufacturer's service department will be able to tell. Check out their website for FAQ's and tech support queries, you may find others in the same boat.
Let us know what you find, ok?
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply.
At least I'm not that lost now.
When I used the camcorder, it was on a surge protected power connecter.
I'll try Samsung and see what they say.
I'll post a reply if I have any joy.
