  1. Sefy,

I just wanted to give you some additional information about the LG (Lucky Goldstar) GCE-8160B 40x16x10x CD-RW drive.

This drive was one of the first to support 99 minute recordings. More importantly than that is that it can write 99 minute CD-R discs very well at 8x! (http://www4.tomshardware.com/storage/01q3/010830/outer_limit-09.html) This is somewhat rare because CD writters have a difficult time positioning the laser so accurately on the outer edges of the disc. When I wrote say an 80-82 minute CD with my Plextor for example (at 1x), my computer CD-ROM drives could read the entire disc, but it was more difficult for them at the end. On all of my standalone SVCD players, I would have problems at the end of the disc because the CD-readers were having a difficult time reading the data; this doesn't mean that they couldn't read the data, but it took long enough that it was to late for the real-time video playback.

So I purchased the LG GCE-8160B on the Internet for cheap, like $70 bucks. I can now write 83 minute CD-R discs at 16x and they play back perfect. I enjoyed the drive so much that I got rid of my Plextor and bought another one at Best Buy this week for $99 with $25 gift certificate and $20 rebate (total cost=$54).

Just thought you might like the 90/99 minute information to update the chart and thought I would give one user's impression of the drive. I enjoyed my 12x Plextor SCSI CD-RW, but this beats it easy...
