My goal is to have an extensive movie libary on my pc. I have 2 terabytes of storage and can easily add more. I have been currently using autoGK / dvd decryptor. Ripping to AVI format. I usualy go for 75% of target size, quality and sound are fine, but I"m trying to maximise my configuratioin. I have a 23' HP f2304 widescrene hi def lcd monitor, sb audigy 2, logitec z5500 digi's running off of optical.

Is ripping these movies to avi the recomded way or is another format perfered? I'm obviously trying to get the best picture sound quality I can in the smallest file size. Currently I have 300 + movies but some of them are just bad rips. I would really appreaciate any feedback so that I can achieve this. I did notice that using autoGK the audio rip was always 6 channel ac3 is that the best I can do? I would like to use dobly or thx ( of course if that title is encoded in that format ).

I'm sure you've seen these questions, I have searched through the forums and found alot of answers I was looking for, these forums have been extremely helpful. So I apoligize if this is in the wrong section.

I have also put a channel blocker on my cable system ( I block out cspan ) when you turn my tv to cspan you're actually watching my pc that's any tv in the house, that's why I would like to get these movies in the best video / audio quality that I can, and this is also for permanent storage on my server.

    Thanks

I'm sure all of your vids are very good quality. Most people who rip movies onto the pc are doing it to conserve space. Generally most movies are ripped into 1 or 2 700mb files. All of the 2 file rips that I have seen are very good quality and only using 1.4GB of space, where you files are prob using twice that.

Not that any of that matters, the bottom line is what YOU are happy.

  3. well I have been ripping into 1 file usually 1 - 2 gb per flick. Video quality is good, but curious about the aspect size to maximize the use of my new 23' lcd hi def monitor. and the audio, are you able to rip and encode with THX / DB PR II ? basically I"m just not sure if I'm ripping / converting into the best quality I can. like I said I have 2 terabytes of storage and always adding more, to keep my extensive movie database.
