I am using iMovie HD and I need to add a Copyright Warning to a DVD that I created. How can I add the warning screen so that it is the first thing to show when the DVD is entered.

    1. DVD copyright warning

    2. Show DVD menu

I am working on this project now so any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    OK, my qestion is this:

    1. Do you want the end user to be able to see it first,
but have the option to skip it and go straight to the DVD Menu?

    or

    2. Have it play first, and make the end user sit
through it until the movie starts?

If #1, this easily accomplished in DVDSP3, by making say,
a DV NTSC jpg file of your "warning", and then open it in
Quicktime PRO, set it to export as a QT mov, and slow the
frame rate down to say 90 frames a sec.
This should produce a lengthy enough movie, that
you can then import into DVDSP3 and set it to a track,
and set that track to "first play" option.
I don't know the steps to get this
    to work in iDVD though.

    if
#2, You can create the warning in Photoshop as before,
then import it directly as a .jpg into iMovie HD, and set it
at the first of your track. You might also have to add
before and after it two solid black .jpgs ( to pad the length),
and then you can set low fade ins and outs ( 3 sec max)
at the before and afters of the black jpgs, sandwhiching
    your warning.

Then, add the rest of the movie to the track,
and export the whole thing to iDVD, or to Compressor
    for DVDSP3.

Great! I just did #2. My question is do I add that warning as a chapter or just leave it in between the 2 black jpgs? So this will show the warning when the DVD is entered and users have to watch that before it goes to the main menu?

Thanks a lot for your reply...

  6. In iDVD you can place a clips to play when the disk is first put into a DVD player, and then the menu's appear. Of course the viewer doesn't see this clip if their TV isn't set up and ready to go (set to the DVD input).

    Jasen,
after you have created the warning ( 2 black jpegs and
NTSC DV JPG file) , IF YOU WANT TO FORCE THE VIEWER
TO WATCH THE WARNING, without going to the DVD Menu, you just add your clips of the movie,
BEHIND the last black jpg, and then export the whole
thing to IDVD. IDVD will then recognize the whole thing
as your main track, and from within iDVD,you can
set chapter menu points, if you want the end user to skip
over the warning using "next chapter" on the remote.
But, they will see the DVD Menu first, and THEN they
will see the warning. ( option #2)

if you want #1, WHICH IS TO HAVE IT FIRSTPLAY,
and then GO TO THE MAIN DVD MENU, either use
DVDSP3 option I mentioned (option #1 of mine)
    or follow Willrob's suggestion.
"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

Thanks for all the help. I got it to work. I did it both ways to practice. One by creating the black jpgs and the other by adding the warning image to the first screen in iDVD.

Thanks again for all your help...
