  1. How do I skip the initial "choose your account" when windows firsts starts loading. I know it's somewhere in "account settings" but I can't find it. It's been ages since I formatted.

Second, is it hard to install a new harddrive? Is there anything I should be looking for as far as incompatability with my motherboard? I've never had to replace a harddrive or put in a new one, so I have no clue

Oh...and could someone please explain what the difference is between these 2 HD...there's a 10 dollar difference...but I don't know which is better?

  2. 1. im not sure if u can, i think u have to set up at least one account, the administrator account. and its best that u do this because it helps secure your computer.

    2. you need to find out if your mb uses ide cables or the new serial cables. all computers have ide channels so thats your safest bet, but serial is faster and easier to set up/usually.

as far as how hard it is to install/depends on what your all doing with it. if your just adding some extra space its pretty easy just need to format it in either fat32 or the like. when u first get your hard drive u will need to set up jumpers if its just a ide drive. the sata/ serial cable model doesn't need jumpers.

basicly u have 2 ide channels on a motherboard. each channel u can connect a cable to. and each cable can connect to 2 devices. hard drive and cd burners ect. each channel can only have one master and one slave unit on it. devices set up as master usually work faster and u want any drive that has your os on it set up as master. so then u set up other device as slave.

it sounds complicated but its not.

not all motherboards can accomodate the bigger hard drives such as a 160 or 200 gb hard drive. some motherboards have limitations. how old is that pc that you want the 2nd hard drive for? some older motherboards are not compatible with the big hard drives. another alternative is to use a PCI CONTROLLER CARD for the bigger capacity hard drives.

your mobo should be fine to accomodate a big capacity hard drive. the 2nd hard drive can be connected to your IDE 1 PRIMARY SLAVE if it's not being used. i am assuming your IDE 1 PRIMARY MASTER has your main hard drive.

I would assume the same thing. What I want to do is get the 300 gig and have that as the primary and use the 30 as a backup. I guess this is possible? I hope so...I almost bought a whole new system...only beer kept me from it!!

Why not use the 30gb as your primary hard drive with the Operating System on it? I'd use the 300gb hard drive as a backup/storage.

Because I'm worried that the 30 is f%&ked somehow...it's been giving me some problems. Not enough to throw it away though.
