  1. Well, after several blue screens I decided to format. First, it would let me as far as the delete partition part of it then ANOTHER blue screen. Didn't know I could get them from setup. The I got as far as actually formatting and about 10 percent of the way through, and ANOTHER blue screen. SO...now I can't even format. Would this be an indication that my HD is fucked? Or should I do something else?

I'm using my girls PC for now, until I get some good advice...help

What brand is your hard drive? Maxtor, Western Digital and I think Seagate have utilities to check the hard drive for errors/failures. I had a similar problem when reformatting a compaq pc. I didn't get the bsod but the hard drive took over 1 hour to format. I figured something was wrong and used the powermax utility from maxtor and sure enough the hard drive was failing.

  3. It's some old cheap IBM drive...not sure exactly. I don't have any disks for it. I'm just wondering if it's possible that this could be anything other than a HD problem. While waiting for replies, I turned off the PS and cooled down the system a bit. After, it got to about 80 percent before giving me a blue screen....damn

IBM hard drive? Deathstar? Oops I meant Deskstar! As already mentioned your disc could be scratched. If you have a spare hard drive try using it with the disc then you can rule out if it's actually the disc (scratched).

No, the disk isn't scratched. I keep everything pretty clean. However, I did EVENTUALLY manage to get windows on my PC, but I have no idea how. The blue screen just never came

  8. i had a similar problem, trying to install xp it seemed it didn't like it when i formated the hard drive into fat32, i used partition magic to make just a black hard drive non formated. then xp formated it itself and it liked that better.

Glad to hear you finally got windows installed. Sometimes installing windows is such a bitch!
