  1. Hello Everyone!
This is my first time post on this website, so I don't really know if I am posting in the right forum. Here is my question:
Is there a way to play a movie on your computer and record it at the same time on your computer? Is there such a software that can do that? What I mean by record is like when you record something off the TV using your VCR. Like that, but all done on your computer. Play the movie on the computer and also record it at the same time on the computer. And no, I don't have a DVD burner. I have a CD burner. I tried to burn it onto a CD (its already a VCD) but it only either records 10 minutes or it gives a disk error on my DVD. And yes, my DVD player can play VCDs. I am tryting to play a VCD on my computer and record it at the same time on my computer. The VCD is corrupt and doesn't work on my DVD, so I need to record it onto my computer so that I can make it into another VCD that works. Is there some sort of software that can help me? I want one that doesn't give me choppy results and also records the audio I hear.
    Thanks in advance!

If the VCD is corrupt-you need to use ISOBUSTER to extract the mpg(s) to your hard disk. Burn the mpgs to a CD as VCD
If the VCD is badly corrupted, it may take overnight or longer just to extract the mpg files, if it is very badly corrupted it could be impossible.

If the movie is already in VCD format, you should just be able to copy the entire disc to your computer and then just write all the files to a new disc.

    You could also try VCDGear.

  4. I've already tried ISOBuster. What the problem of the VCD is that after 9min and 52 sec it gets stuck. But if I skip one or tow minutes before 9:52 it works fine. I tried burning onto a CD before but either it burns 9min and 52 sec or it gives an error. That is why I wanted to record it. So that I can get a fresh cd with no errors. Is there a way?

mgh has already given you a way...

you have already said that the video freezes at approx. 10 minutes, how is recording it going to help anything? at best you are going to lose quality from an already quality deprived source.

  6. That is the thing. I tried ISOBuster and I don't thinl that it can extract a approx 52 minutes movie in 5 minutes. It does it until aprox 10 mins.

    Hi ya,

Have you ever had this VCD working or is this a new fault? Also, are you able to play the whole movie on either a standalone or PC or does it freeze when you get to the 'bad' part of the movie?

If you can't play it the options don't look good. If you can play on a standalone (but can't get ISO Buster or VCD Gear to work - they are still the better options) you could capture it using a capture card, but if you don't own one and this is a one off project it would probably be cheaper to replace the VCD (if possible).

PS dumb-ass question (but as they are my speciality I will ask anyway) - Have to tried to copy the .dat file just using windows explorer?

  8. Ok. I can play this VCD (it has my cousins wedding on it) on my PC but not on my DVD player. And yes, my DVD player can play VCDs. The reason I can't play it on my DVD player is because: There are usually 5 or 6 folders in a VCD. Those 6 folders are inside another folder. And that is why it can't auto play on my DVD.
When I play it on my PC it works fine until it gets to the bad part, which is 9:52 mins. But, as I said before, if I skip one or two minutes before the bad part it also works fine.

I am trying to work with ISOBuster again to extract the mpg(s), maybe that will work now. I don't have a capture card.

How can I copy the .dat file using windows explorer?

    Thanks for any help!

  9. I just extracted the mpg(s) using ISOBuster and the finished project was 0KB. Is that suppose to happen?
