  1. Many of the recommendations I am seeing here tell people to de-multiplex the video and audio into separate files. If your editing software doesn't require this, why would I want to do this?

In my case, I'm using DVD Decrypter to pull files from DVD+RW media so that I can edit it with Womble and burn out to DVD+R to keep. (originally recorded on Pioneer 615, just removing lead in and lead out ...)

I have found that you see four active PCGs (for a disk with two recorded programs)

    PCG 1 [00:46:10]
    PCG 2 [00:45:50]
    PCG 3 [00:00:01]
    PCG 4 [00:46:10]
    PCG 5 [00:45:50]
    PCG 6 [00:00:01]

From my testing, to get one program I need to select either #1 and #4, or #2 and #5. 4-6 appear to be the audio (since if I grab just #1 or #2 it has all the video and no audio) #3 and #6 are a Pioneer "blank spot" for new recordings.

Anyway, ramble off, if I decrypt with stream processing disabled I was able to edit it in Womble mpeg2vcr and burn it back out again just fine. What advantage is there to de-multiplexing this into separate streams? Wouldn't I potentially just create a sync problem for myself later?

I think you just answered your own question right there ....
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Okay, so I'm trying to use some of the free stuff people have recommended over Nero, and all of these want the streams de-multiplexed. Is this better in some way?
