I just built a PC for my girlfriend. All is going well with it, except for sometimes the mouse, which is a Razor Diamondback, doesn't detect on boot up. The keyboard and mouse are both USB and the keyboard detects fine. 1 out of 5 times though the mouse will not detect and I have to reboot it to get it to pick up. I checked the Bios and USB Keyboard support is enabled but USB Mouse support is not. I tried changing that with no luck. Any ideas what to do. I'll post the parts here in case that will help.

I ran into that problem with my laptop. Fortunately the optical mouse came with a USB to PS2 adapter and when I use that, the mouse works perfectly all the time. Just plugs into the PS2 mouse port instead of the USB port. I have no idea why it works this way.
I suspect it has something to do with the order the drivers load.
You might be able to get one with a cheap mouse, or check a computer shop and see if they have a spare. -
I don't think this mouse works with a PS/2 adapter. I'll try it, but it draws more power than most mice because is has more lighting inside it. I have a feeling that it'll require the extra juice from the USB. I don't think it can achieve it's maximum sensetivity via a PS/2 connection either. I might try changing which port it's plugged into the next time I'm at her house and see if that helps.
Personally I'm not too found of USB mice and Keyboards but that what she insisted on because it looked cooler. -
You're right. The Razer site says it won't work with a PS2 port.
This was also on their site.
Q. Sometimes my Razer mouse does not work at startup after a cold start?
A. Make sure your ports are not going into hibernation mode. Check the following:
- Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
- Click on the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Click on the + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right click on any Root Hub and choose Properties.
- Click the Power Management tab and make sure there is NO CHECK in "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"
- Click the OK button and do this for each Root Hub.
- Next, click on Start and Control Panel.
- Double click on Power Options.
- Click the Hibernation Tab and uncheck Enable hibernate support.
Not so much the hibernation part, but the part that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." I notice that is checked in my computer. Maybe default?
BTW, if you haven't been to their site, a lot of FAQ's there. -
Yeah I just found that myself. I'm going to try it thursday and hope it works. It just gets annoying to her having the mouse not working like that. Mine was set to this by default as well. I'm assuming hers will be too.

I had this problem too, looks like it only occurs when you use the saitek keyboard with the razer mouse.
I think your comment about the power is correct, did you have any luck fixing it ?
I tried all the stuff of razer website and I even contacted them about it but they couldnt help me.
Any ideas or is it a bin job on the saitek keyboard ?
What about increasing the voltage in Bios would that give it more juice to work properly ? -
My USB mouse on my desktop sometimes (but not usually) loses power when the PC hibernates, and fails to regain power when it wakes up. Unplugging the mouse and reinserting it into the same USB port works every time. I suppose you have already tried this? It's more of a pain on my desktop PC because it's plugged in the back. That's why I didn't try it right away. It's way easier on a laptop, so I imagine you've already tried it, but I mention it just in case. Sometimes the simplest solutions work.

Yep but it only happens on boot up
if it fires upon startup it works and even on hibernation it will still work when I come back in.
the problem is sometimes it wont work on startup so I have to reach to the back of the pc and un plug and replug, its just an annoiance but when you spend £25 on a top line mouse you shouldnt have to do this
