I have a camcorder that records at 29.97 fps interlaced only. Is there a way to turn that into smooth 23.976 fps progressive, simulating film? I know regular inverse telecine won't work, as there are 60(or so) distinct fields as opposed to repeated ones and there is no pattern to recognize.
Do you know of any software or filters that can help me in this task?

    Thanks for the help!

PS: I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I looked for it and really coudn't find anything!

What is the purpose? Transfer to film?

Best to keep it interlaced. The process to convert to 23.976 will degrade the video. Professionals can do a reasonable job if this is important.

If you are only looking for a film look at 29.97 there are many filters that simulate film look without the jerky-blurred result of 23.976 that many don't appreciate. Real film presentation isn't that jerky because a projector shutter repeats frames for an effective 48fps flicker.

    Just my opinion.
