I'm trying to use the .AVI to .M2V capabilities of QuEnc to
encode some of my DV footage for later DVD authoring.

QuEnc works fine on my laptop but dies when run on my
tower PC. It opens a zero byte .M2V file and then... nothing.
No error message or estimated completion time shown. QuEnc
just sits there. I can close the QuEnc window or try again but
no joy here. BTW QuEnc 0.61 now opens .AVI files directly, no
    .AVS scripts are needed.

Pointers or help would be appreciated.

This is only partially true, it depends on the type of avi file. I know it works well with Type2-DV but it has problems with Type1-DV, and I have no idea how it will react with DIVX or XVID.
Are you saying that it works fine on your laptop and doesn't work on the tower WITH THE SAME SOURCE FILE, or that you have used it successfully on the laptop, but have never been able to get it to work on the tower? Have you tried it on your tower using an avisynth script to load the avi?
