    Hi vocalmind,

You're gonna have to provide a lot more info...

    Audio?
    Video?
    What format?
What tool was used in the first place, if any?
What are you trying to achieve?

That's a huge bit rate drop. You should convert to mono so you'll have perceived 64 kbs quality.

Razorlame , a GUI front end for Lame, will do the conversion for you.

Audio bitrate takes up almost no space.
    You won't save anything.
Leave audio at least 192k minimum on AC3 or MP2
    maybe 128k minimum on MP3

If you really need to go that low-consider conversion to wma audio or real audio-at least the vocals will remain reasonably clear.

...or .ogg at really low bitrates. Only got a 16 MB memstick in my phone, and listening to MP3 below 96k is unbearable. ogg, @ half that rate is tolerable, actually.

It depends on the use case (that we don't know up to now). For example, if you want to offer real time audio streaming over the internet, the limitation is not disk space but internet bandwidth of the end users. For low bandwidth internet connections (analog or ISDN), 32 kbit/s might make sense.

If reducing audio bitrate doesn't save anything, then I'm assuming reducing video bitrate does? If so, how do I do this?

    Thanks!

You re-encode it. Again, what's your format?

Mpeg is a format, divx is a format, avi is a container. Rather than giving us bits and pieces and keeping us guessing. Identify your file, here: https://www.videohelp.com/play.htm#identify

Now fill in the blanks (copy and paste)...

"I have an avi in ____ video format and _____ audio format, it is ____ minutes long and ______ KB in size.

I wish to make it ________ KB in size keeping as much quality as possible. What tools/steps do you recommend?"
