Hello![]()
I observe something strange happen between Internet Explorer (I use version 6.0) and Microsoft Excel, and would like to hear your comments.
I uploaded an Excel file of mine to my web site. Later, whenever I tried to open (download) it from the web site, I would receive this message in the box "File in use":
'filename'.xls is being locked for editing
by (my name)
Click 'Notify" to open a read-only document and receive notification when the document is no longer in use.
Read-Only
Notify
Cancel
I clicked on 'Notify' and the box "File Now Available" appeared with the message:
'filename'.xls is now available for editing
Choose Read-Write to open it for editing
Read-write
Cancel
I clicked on 'Read-write' and the file opened. But I could only edit and save the file onto my hard drive, not to my web site.
This happened only with my Internet Explorer, not with other people's. Other people, using the same Internet Explorer, can just open my file without all of the mumbo-jumbos above.
I have reset all my Internet Explorer options to default and exactly to a friend's settings (who opens my file without those complications). I still got the same messages before I could open my own file.
What can I do?
Thanks

delete your cookies for your site?
That's where I would start.
Then open IE
Click tools
select "internet options"
under general tab click "settings" in temp int files.
Change it to EVERY VISIT TO THIS PAGE vs. automatically.
Just my .02¢
