  1. i use Windows Media Classic but i also tried VLC and neither can get this to work. i have some AVI files that used to work but now do not. when i open them with WMC, it says "playing" but the counter stays still and i cannot see or hear anything. it does recognize the length of the video and stuff like that. when i tried playing the same file with VLC, i could see the video but the sound was "skipping" (i dont know how to explain this well but basically it was like playing a CD on an old CD player and jumping next to it). This just started happening a few days ago. there was no new hardware installed and no new software that i can think of except FLASH FXP.

    thanx for all the help

    If in doubt, Google it.

Mpc can be a problem , and dosent take much for it to fall over , and if vlc is also having problems , the the codec problem is more extensive , and a quick fix wont work .

Your problem resides within the systems registry , which means you need to backup files to cdr , and reload your pc os to fix the problem .

Just as a second guess , download avg free (antivirus) , install , update first , then let it rip and see if it picks up any bugs you may have come across by accident . If it finds anything , move them to avg's vault , if it says it cannot , you locate the file , and delete it from the system , not too recycle bin , reboot , and see it mpc has come back .

Once things start moving about in the registry when they shouldnt , a reload is the only sure fire cure .

It also helps to take snapshots of the registry as things get installed , for back tracking problematic products .
