  1. I'm trying to convert an AVI file and get sound that's actually in SYNC
There are so many settings and I cannot keep track of all of them, that nothing ever seems to come out right with sync or aspect ratio.
    Here's my file specs:
    AVI
    mpeg4
    640x352
    23.98 fps
    Audio:
    mp3
    48000Hz
    Stereo
    136 kb/s

I want this file to convert to either a VCD, SVCD, or DVD as long as the picture is decent quality and sound is SYNCED! NO matter what I do, ffmpeg VCD gives me a blocky section that goes in and out on the middle right of my screen.
I paid my fee a loooong time ago, and if I'm converting an mpeg to DVD or SVCD, or bin/cue, or DVD authoring, it works killer, in three plus years, I've gotten one or two AVI's to convert that didn't have serious sound, picture or aspect ratio issues.
I honestly think that toooooo many people figure we all know this stuff, I don't, and in no tutorial have I found the answers I need. If my original is widescreen, HOW do I maintain it so it looks right? I have no idea, so every damn conversion looks like crap. 3:2? Pulldown? NTSC DVD? I have no explanation of these terms, or how I should set any of this stuff to get a decent conversion, it's just assumed I do.
Major, it's great tool, but when Version 1.0 is ready, a COMPREHENSIVE MANUAL would be a lovely addition to it, I'd happily PAY another fee, hell, 50.00 would be a fair price to pay for it, as long as I have the manual that I can understand.
You're really great about helping people, but if I had the info beforehand, I wouldn't need to ask for help, I don't want to keep messing up, wasting time and then cutting and pasting my output so you can figure out where I went wrong.
    Thanks,

  2. Well, suppose you want to convert this AVI to VCD. First open the AVI in Quicktime Player and make sure it plays correctly and with sound. Then drop the AVI on ffmpegX and select "VCD mpeg2enc" target format. Dont touch any settings. Click "Encode". When done, check the resulting file by playing it with VLC or mplayer.
