I want to create an effect with two video clips. I want the first clip to sort of melt away and disappear and the second one takes its place. The entire clip may be 10 seconds long at very most, with the melt maybe taking 2-3 seconds at most.

I want to re-iterate that even though these are stills in the example, I will be using motion clips fading into each other. Pretend the heads are shaking or something. I do not need "slideshow" software.

I would prefer Adobe Premiere and/or After Effects, as I own those. Although, if needed, I can drive to somebody with Vegas or Final Cut Pro. And I'm open to hearing about others too.

    Some quick examples..

    And there we go. Ideas?

    Hi lordsmurf,

Any of these likely to be of use / affordable?

    www.adobe.com/products/plugins/premiere/main.html#filters

The middle picture, the transition, looks like a smokey dissolve... Or maybe some kind of "melting" transition is required... I had a fairly hefty search on Google and Wrigley Video but nothing caught my eye...

How did you create the image?

Have a look at Debugmode's free morphing software, winmorph. It would do this very easily.

This gave me an excuse to play with WinMorph. I've had it some time, but never used it in production. This is only the second time I've used it. It's got some great tutorials that can be found when you hit the help button. That's what I used to create this:
    morph.wmv (426 kb)

It's a very cool little program that does some cool things as you can see in my example.

WinMorph is great but note that it only morphs video when used as a plugin. In standalone mode you can only morph stills.

I will definitely try this. It's actually not the exact effect that I was looking for. But to be honest, it may be even better. I'm using Adobe Premiere 6.5 for this project, so no go on the PRO filters.

I can't confirm it, but I'm pretty sure you can use it as a plugin for Premiere 6.5. I know it works with Premiere Pro. You can also use it as a plugin with Wax2.

One of these days, I try it with video. I just haven't come up with any good ideas for it yet.

It can always be used as an externally generated clip.
