We just purchased a new DVD for our kids. Like all of the kids movies, we went to back it up, but it is freezing the programs. Even DVD Decrypter couldn't handle it. With Decrypter now being shut down, I am at a loss as to how to handle this disc.

Actually, we are getting tired of having to backup all of the movies we buy, right now we concentrate mainly on the discs the kids touch, but still it is getting to be tiresome. We started looking into buying a 1.6 terabite media server to transfer all the dvd's onto so that no one has to touch any of them, but now if they are adding new protections, and shutting down sites like Decrpyter, it seems like a huge waste of money.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do about this new dvd? Is it a new protection that is keeping me from backing up? Is there something other than dvd decrypter that can get pass this problem?

I am thinking that maybe I should just stop buying dvd's all together. Just join that blockbuster online service instead and just rent to watch them. At least if I want to see them again, I can rent it again. It seems pointless to keep spending money on dvd's that the studios refuse to allow you to back up so that when your disc gets ruined, you have to purchase a new one all together. Corporate greed is out of control.

    Any thought's anyone?

    Try DVDfab Decrypter

DVDFab Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Express. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, Macrovision, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying.

You can find it in the tools section

  3. What movie are you trying to back up? Have you have tried DVD Shrink? You shouldn't really be ripping with decrypter unless you are going to use DL discs anyways.

Also, If you were really willing to pay for 1.6 terabites of storage, then wouldn't it be cheaper just to replace the discs as they are destoryed?
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours.

  4. Yes, try DVDFabDecrypter. I'm thinking you have an ARccOS protected disc. Supposedly the latest version has corrected the problem of DVDShrink being unable to open Fab output. Or try DVD43, it was updated a few days ago. If all else fails, try this:

    Not terribly difficult. Good luck.

Yes, it is. One thing you can do is return the disk to the place of purchase, tell them that it doesn't play on your DVD player, and get a refund.

What business is it of yours (or mine) to question what she wants to spend her money on? If I had $100 million, I still would be upset about not being able to protect my investment.

Why not? I have used decrypter on every single back up I've done that were plain old dvd+r?
I was thinking exactly the same thing. You can rip with whatever you want - smartripper, DVDDecrypter, DVDFab Decrypter .... irregardless of if you're doing DVD9 to DL DVDR, DVD9 to SL DVDR, or DVD5 to SL DVDR (or any of the other less-common DVD sizes).

Care to share why "You shouldn't really be ripping with decrypter unless you are going to use DL discs anyways" ???
    If in doubt, Google it.
