i occasionally download svcd videos, but dont want to waste cd-r's burning them, since they're usually throwaway videos..

would it be possible to merge the mpegs form 2 or 3 discs, author it as one large svcd, and burn those files to a dvd-rw and play them on a dvd player?

Not really. If you don't make a SVCD format disc but instead burn the large video file to a DVD-ROM disc as a raw MPEG files, some DVD players will play raw MPEG files. Some won't. If you try to burn SVCD format on a DVD disc, I don't think anything will let you do that and worse, I don't believe any DVD player will recognize it even if you could burn such a disc.

You can covert your SVCD files to DVD. It's somewhat involved, but there are guides here on how to do it.

Yes you can. If your player supports svcd then it is possible it will handle svcd authored to dvd. You can do it a few ways. The tools in know for sure that work are Guifordvdauthor ,dvdauthorgui, and dvdlab. All accept SVCD mpegs as source files and output ready to burn VIDEO TS files.

You will have to demux to the elementary video and audio streams to use these tools (although dvdlab will demux for you).

well i understand that i could author it as a dvd and probably get away with it.. but what i'm really looking to do is merge the 3 mpegs from the svcd's, drop the mpeg in to nero & output an svcd disc image.. mount it with daemon tools & burn the files from the disc image on to a dvd-rw and play it in my dvd player.

Frankly I don't know if that will work or not. I've never tried it. Give it a shot and see what happens! I just know that if your player supports svcd then more than likely it will support svcd mpegs correctly authored onto a dvd. Forgot to mention you would need to up the audio from 44.1 to 48.0

well i tried svcd2dvd.. in one of my dvd players it wouldnt play at all, and in another it played, but there was this "digital snow" all over the screen and a loud buzzing sound.

i guess there is no easy quick way to transfer a svcd over to dvd.. atleast not with my equipment.
