    Hey all
I'm using WinAvi to convert avi to svcd, to play in my HT system. It works flawlessly so far, but I have one issue. Even though I have it set to create 1 file, it still creates TWO mpg files, 1 at about 730-750MB and the other at about 50-60MB. Anyone know why it does this, and can I fix it so that creates only 1 file?
    TIA!!!

    Hi mjskiwi,

    Welcome to the forums.

I don't know WinAVI, but I'd suspect that it's thinking "730 - 750Mb is the capacity of a CD, so I'll create a file that big and put the rest in a second file". If apps could think that is...

Use the Videohelp Bitrate Calculator to figure out your bitrate, and use that in WinAVI (if possible). it sounds like you need to reduce your bitrate a little...

    Hope that helps some...

The capacity is set to 700MB, so I can fit both files on one disc. It doesn't actually matter what capacity I set it to, it ALWAYS creates two files. Very strange.
I've also got the encoding set to CBR, so it does all that automatically.
    Thanks for the help anyway.

I have the encoding set to 'constant video size', which is the disk capacity

Strange - My suspicion is that there's got to be some setting somewhere that will stop this happening. I know that doesn't help you, but it may serve to get you to stick with it a while longer...

Of course, you could always use another encoder... I use TMPGEnc with no problems.

    Good luck...

Does the larger file contain all of the movie ? I'm just wondering whether that 50-60MB file is just a by-product of VBR encoding that WinAVI uses as a guide for bitrate allocation when encoding ... or not.
    If in doubt, Google it.

No, the larger files doesn't contain the whole movie, or half, whatever. It cuts off, then picks up with the smaller file, which completes that portion.
I've tried TMPGEnc, but couldn't get the settings right to play in a standalone player. Plus it was taking a hour+ to convert, compared to 15-20 mins with WinAvi! This isn't a big deal, I just wondered if anyone knew what I should do.
    Thanks for the input
