  1. I'm buring with Nero and I'm trying to make a dvd data using Nero. I have a Sony 710A (rebadged lite on). I didn't have this problem before until recently. I don't what what could be the problem. Before it was burning fine making good dvd data disks and now when I burn it quits like 1/3 of the way into the burn. I'm using Sony DVD-R disks.

Would restoring the computer a couple weeks back fix the problem?

Did you change media just before this started to happen?

Try cleaning your burner's lens and see if that helps.

Post back and let us know, ok?

  3. I didn't change media. I'm still using the same media as I did before. How would I go about cleaning the lens? I can't see how that would produce the same problem over and over... I also tried restoring the computer to a previous date but that didn't help at all. I also uninstalled Easy CD creator and reinstalled Nero.

When I burn, I keep on getting the same error--Illegal Disk. I tried burning at slower speeds but that doesn't help either...

Cleaning the lens ensures you get a reliable and repeatable burn.

I'm just wondering if it's the same 1/3 thru all of these discs, maybe you just have a bad batch. Try different media and see if you have the same problem. But clean your laser lens first, just in case.

  5. I think it's the Sony blank media. I've had similar problems. Two different burners, two different camputers, same issue. Sony DVD-R media seem to have gone downhill in quality recently.

I'm looking at switching to the shiny silver Ridata or ProDisc. Avoid the dull Riteks, I had problems with them last year. Their quality went downhill and never recovered. Also watch out for phoney Taiyo Yuden from meritline.
