hi,
I converted an avi file to a dvd mpeg2 file using TMPGEnc. Then I burnt it onto DVD using TMPGEnc DVD author. Everything is fine, but I notice the resulting DVD video is not as "sharp" as the original avi file....it is not blurry but just lacks a bit of sharpness and it just makes the DVD movie seem very "unreal" ....ummm, another way to explain it might be the resulting dVd mpeg2 looks too "smooth", edges are smoothed out and lack sharpness making it look "unreal" ..(sorry, I don't really know how to explain that feeling)...
but is there a way to maintain sharpness like the avi file or even increase sharpness of the resulting DVd mpeg2 file?

Yes, some sharpness is lost, especially if it's DV footage..
Although i don't know how much loss you have, there's several things you can do to get as close to the source as possible...
1) Up the bitrate to as high as possible.
2) Don't deinterlace interlaced footage (ie DV)..
3) Don't let your computer monitor determine final outcome. Since T.V. has native interlaced scanning, it will provide a more pleasing view for interlaced sources..
Good luck!!
