  2. No, you cannot load MPEG2 files to the timeline in Premiere 6. It is possible to use the AVIsynth import plug-in to do this, but it is not a satisfactory solution because you can't see anything but a black strip on the timeline in Premiere when the plug-in is used. Also, you can't preview an MPEG2 file from within Premiere. Based on my experience I would suggest that you not capture in MPEG2 if you want to edit your work in Premiere 6. MPEG2 is a distribution codec, not really a working/editing codec.

  4. Most definatelly, you can use any program/codec that your capture card is compatable with. ATI has lots of possibilities for your capture. The Matrox is a bitchen card though and the factory programs are phenominal. With great transitions and filters. However the Matrox is about the same price. I personally like my ATI but the Matrox is a very good card that will give you lots of happy captures. The really bitchen thing about the Matrox card is that it does DUAL HEAD. If you know anything about dual head it's really trick to play with.
The matrox will also allow you to output to a tv while you are editing and stuff. Basically you asked and I think you should get the Matrox card. I would if I had the chance again.
Let us know what you chose.
