  1. A man came from NY to the NW to give a talk in a church. I got a DVD copy of the talk. My friend doesn't have a DVD palyer (infact, he doens't have a TV eather!). He wanted me to to put the audio on a CD so he could listen to the talk.

I used DVD Decripter to get the audio on the HD. When I used Nero ( I followed the instructions at this site) to burn the Cd it said it doesn't recignize the file type. I followed the guide from this site and it went just the way it showed it. What went wrong? Thank you, Chris.

P.S. It played good in my Home Theater DVD Player but not when I played on my computer. The time counted on MWP tho.

It is difficult to answer you when we do not have all the details.

What guide did you try to use?

    What steps did you take?

Did you try and shrink the files? You normally can't without modifying the files take what was on a dvd and burn it on a cd because a dvd holds more files than a cd.

  3. The talk was an hour long. Should fit on CD. Look at DVD to WAV on this site. It gives a link to the site. It has screen shots of each step. Mine was exatly the same each steap.

    This one ?

Do you have the Nero 2-Channel-AC3 Input plug-in ?

    Is it possible you're trying to use a 5.1 AC3 source ?

We really need more information regarding your source, as well as a link to the guide you used (or confirmation that it was the guide I linked above), as well as a screendump of the error message Nero gave you. Unfortunately we can't help you much with what you've given, since we can't see your screen from here, and our crystal balls are good, but not that good
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Yes, that is the link I followed. Don't think it's 5.1. The sound is room sound. Although the video quality is extremly good, the sound is from the room air, not pro, so I don't think it's 5.1.

I will go through the process again and get the error message.

Get a screencap of the screen you get in this section:
    3. Once done, uncheck all boxes except one audio track, normally it will be a AC3, but it could also be a WAV or MPA file, it must be 2 channel only, surround is not supported. If there is more than one 2 channel audio file, go for the first one on the list, the others may be directors commentaries etc. Once you have selected the correct audio track, select it, and then select the "Demux" option instead of the "Direct Stream Copy" option.

    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Can't get it to show up here. It does say, "AC3/2 channel."
I installed the plug in you provided (thank you).

Not sure but I think when it gets done Demuxing it has the video files, not audio.

  8. I just tried it in both WMP and Real. Both don't recignize the video or audio. I reported that with WMP the time was countiing at the bottom even tho no video/audio. Now I don't see that.
I've had discs that wouldn't play on a cd/dvd player but DID play on my computer. This is the first time one will play on a home DVD but not at all on a computer.

You should be getting an AC3 file after demuxing - if not, then you're not doing something you should be doing. You need to tick (or leave ticked) the audio you require, but then you also need to click on that audio stream once, and then click on the demux button.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  10. The problem most likely is that you don't have an ac3 directshow filter installed on your computer. In that case you'll get a .ac3 file after demuxing, but it will be nothing but silence.

Install an ac3 directshow filter. Google "download ac3 filter directshow" -- here's a typical one:
    www.vidlizard.com/ac3-filter.html

You'll want to use BeSweet to convert the ac3 file to WAV. You'll also have to sample-rate-convert the 48 khz WAV file to 44.1 khz, which you can do from inside BeSweet, or in an external program like Sound Forge or Cool Edit Pro or GoldWave (which is freeware).

Once you've got the WAV file at 44.1 khz, remember that it can't be any longer than 700 megs to fit on a DVD, so you'll probably have to import the WAV file into GoldWave and cut it up and save it several parts to spread the talk over 2 audio CDs if it was longer than 74 minutes.

If you'd read (or tried) the guide, you'd know that all you need is the Nero 2-channel AC3 plugin, and nero will do the extraction to WAV for you automatically
    If in doubt, Google it.

  12. When I Demux I don't see an (only) audio file anyware. Am I supoised to? I have chapters of VOB Files only?

If you're getting VOB files, then you're not following the guide correctly.

Instead of doing step 3 from the guide, do this, in the exact order that I have specified here:

    1. uncheck all boxes except one audio track.
    2. left-click once on the audio track you're keeping, so that it is highlighted in blue.
    3. select the "Demux" option instead of the "Direct Stream Copy" option.

Now if you only have one audio file ticked, and you definitiely have selected that file and then clicked demux, then you will get one AC3 file for each chapter. You should not have the video stream(s) or any other stream(s) ticked, so there should be absolutely no other files - no VOBs, no nothing. Just simply 1 AC3 file for each chapter.

Now follow the rest of the guide.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    No problemo

As I said, guides don't lie, and what I wrote is exactly the same as what that guide tells you to do, just worded a bit differently.

Please remember to give as much information as possible next time you start a thread
    If in doubt, Google it.

  16. Just to help anyone, the problem was that I did have the Demux checked, but what I did was have the (guide) screen in the background. I would click on the screen to get the DVD Decripter box to go to the taskbar so I could read the guide. When I brought it back up, it wasn't in the demux mode. Since I already checked it, I never looked at it agin when I brought it back up. Chris.

  17. When I'm done, the files are ac3. nero converts them to wav when burning. Is there a way to get the files on my HD to be wav.?
