I want to change an avi from 16:9 to 4:3 (320 x 240) aspect ratio to correct it. I tried the VirtualDub resize filter, but it is going to make a 1 GB file 5 times the size!
Is there any other program that will do a good job of the resize (keeping it an avi, no format conversion) but won't give me a result file of mammoth proportions?

You can use virtualdub, but you have to re-encode. You are trying to save it as an uncompressed avi. Select a compressor (the same one as it is currently encoded with will be fine) and set it up to provide the filesize you need.Originally Posted by headless chickenThere are 10 kinds of people in this world. Ahh, compression. Definitely overlooked that. Thanks, bugster.
I have a smaller (1 GB) output file now, only problem is audio and video are out of sync. Can I fix this in virtual dub? -
If the source file has VBR audio (vdub will warn you if it has when you open the source file) then you can try re-encoding that to a CBR format, it sometimes fixes sync problems.Originally Posted by headless chickenThere are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those that understand binary...
