  1. I bought a copy of Battle of Britian only to find out it is in PAL format. I want to convert the entire disc including menues and chapters to NTSC. I find guides on how to convert a file from PAL to NTSC but not a whole disc. Can someone please tell me how this can be done. Thanks

  2. You can't.

You can hack it up and use NuMenu4u and put it back together, but it's not worth the trouble for me.

  4. Buy a Region-Free DVD player. You can get a nice JVC unit for about $50-$60 these days... they play everything and convert to NTSC on the fly.

Check eBay. There are tons of them available. JVC, Panasonic, etc. Cheaper no-name brands from China, too.

  5. Just make sure you get one that does the video conversion - just because it may be region free doesn't mean it will convert the video standards for you too. That is, by comparison, a relatively rare beast.

Reauthoring PAL to NTSC will probably take you months (in time) to master.

Read the FAQ's on this site to figure out which DVD players are both region free and multi-standard playback (PAL to NTSC).*
    http://www.dvdoverseas.com/dvd.htm

Most region free Chinese players will play it in PAL, but then you would need to buy a multi-system TV to watch it in PAL.

    Good Luck.

    * Beware of falling for "plays any DVD". True it will play any region DVD but that doesn't mean it will play it in NTSC standard. Read carefully.

The Cyberhome player can do PAL, but it skips frames and the picture is jittery. I have the Phillips 642. You can get it cheap most places, and it plays almost everything.

Does this Philips unit play consistantly with no skips or dropped frames? And what do they run ($) while I have you on the line?

I have been using the cyberhome unit, and while the picture is beautiful, it does have issues with some discs for no real reason. Sometimes I have to burn a copy and use the new copy to play the PAL disc, and output to NTSC. But the progressive out has proved to be exceptional looking captured into a ADVC-500. No complaints with the output quality once it agees to play the disc smoothly.

    my 2 cents on this..

i have a pioneer dv-270 (dv-271, dv-275), it cant be made region free.. but it will play a regionfree (backup) pal dvd-r in ntsc. it converts on the fly and does a wonderful job.. it's a sturdy player, and its about $50 at wal-mart.
