I've an AVI file with the following specifications:

    1.) Size: 707MB
    2.) Length: 2hr. 18 min. 59sec.
    3.) Resolution: 512 X 272
    4.) Audio Bitrate: 112Kbps MPEG 1/2 L3 audio

I don't know, with what codec it was encoded.
I want to re-encode this file in AutoGK inorder to join subtitles to it. After giving this file as input to AutoGK, and starting the Job, it gave an error message saying that the audio has an error, and so, cannot be encoded.

    Here's the screenshot:

I felt strange, and opened the same file in VirtualDubMod v1.5.10.1....Strangely, as soon as I opened the file, VirtualDubMod closed automatically. The same thing happened with VDub-MPEG2 too. But, when I opened the file in VDub v1.6.9, the file opened. Here's the screenshot of the file when opened in VDub v1.6.9:

Although it opened succesfully, I don't know what codec to use to "Save" this file "As AVI"(as I don't know the codec used in the orig. AVI file), so that I can open this new file using AutoGK and re-encode with subtitles. Pls show me a way out.

Wouldn't it be easier to use your DVD copy of "The Shawshank Redemption" and pick up the original AC3 audio and subtitles straight off the disc ? or aren't the subtitles you require on the DVD ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

You were only 4 away... If you go into file info it will tell you what video codec. Not that it matters anyway. Say the file uses VP62, that doesn't mean that you have to recompress to VP62, especially since it sounds like you are planning on playing it back in a standalone.

My advice would be to use external subs, assuming that it plays back ok currently.

If autogk has a problem with the audio, can't you set it to encode without audio? You would need to use a custom filesize though of say 633MB's.
