  1. Guess you guys probably have seen this problem a million times but I don't know why it's happening...

I never had a single crash with Virtual Dub until I reformatted my HDD a few weeks ago, reinstalling everything. I had been using DivX 5.2.1 but when I reinstalled everything I got the latest version (DivX 6.0). Now whenever I try to encode a piece of video (usually they're only about two or three minutes long) Virtual Dub crashes just as it's about to finish. Here is the error message:

I suspect it has something to do with the video and sound going out of sync or something, but I'm not sure. The video is still in the directory where I was saving it but I cannot play it back in WMP, and when I play it back in VirtualDub it finishes maybe two or three seconds earlier than it should.

Is there a quick fix? Thanks!

Uninstall Divx 6 and go back to 5.2 and see if it works. Or use Xvid instead.

OK so I'm back to 5.2 and there are still problems... but different ones!

I get this error message seconds from completion... are the video and audio going out of sync or what? Thanks.

  4. What type of audio compression are you using?
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours.

I use MPEG Layer-3 compression at 56 / 24 / 7 (stereo). I've never had problems with it in the past.

    My other options are...

    No compression (file too big)
    WMA v1 or v2
    AC-3 ACM Decompressor
    Some Microsoft ones
And a few others I have no idea about.

Can you reccommend something better, then?
