Question about Sony DVD Architect 3.0

Hi,

I am new to Sony DVD Architect 3.0 and I am really struggling to learn this tool to author DVD. I am trying to create a DVD without menu. I have an .avi file that I want to put on DVD. When I try to add this avi file, I get an alert error message saying - The selected file is not of the required type.

Gspot shows the following information about the avi file.
Codec - XviD
Interleave: 96 ms(2.3 v. frames), preload = 96
Audio frames: Split across interleaves
File length correct

Audio:
AC3
48000 Hz 32kb/s total (2 chnls)

Video:
Frms/sec: 23.976

XviD is installed on the machine. Other DVD authoring tools don't give me any error when I try to use this .avi file but for some reason Sony DVD Architect 3.0 complains. Can someone give me a clue as why I am getting this error or am I doing something wrong?

I am using the manual that came with the DVD Architect 3.0 but don't find much useful. Is there any other tutorials or websites available to get one started.

To start, XviD is not defined as a DVD format.

Some players will accept XviD as an additional format. Each player has restrictions on bitrate, etc. and DVD formatting requirements.

Evidently, Sony DVDA has no XviD (MPeg4) import support. Other programs may be converting XviD to DVD MPeg2.

There is no "may be" to it.
If they are authoring, they have to convert to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2.

Are you saying DVDA is not letting you import the Avi? Or is it telling you that it is not a Mpeg2/DVD Video file? If so it will convert to Mpeg2. DVDA will inport Xvid and Convert it to Mpeg2.

When I try to import the avi file, I get the message saying - "The selected file is not of the required type."

For some reason DVDA is having trouble converting this Xvid file to suitable MPEG.

You got Vegas 6 along with DVDA 3; let it do all the grunt work. Try this:

1. Import the XviD AVI file into Vegas 6.
2. Render the imported file to an MPEG-2 file. Use the "DVD Architect" template.
3. Render the imported file to an AC3 audio file.
4. Import the MPEG-2 and AC3 files into DVDA 3.

"The right tool for the right job" is what I always say. That's why all of my video editing and rendering is done by other tools (Vegas, TMPGEnc, etc.), leaving DVDA to do what it does best: produce a DVD.

Hi I get the same message, and be it in Sony dvd architect or in vegas (6 and 7) version i get exact the same message. I can open all videos in any other application, but not in the sony ones
