  1. Haven't used -rw discs. My understanding from the past couple of years here is:

    Best dvd-r are: Tayio Yuden
    Best cheap dvd-r are: Riteks

Never purchased -rw discs. Would ritek or TY be recommended here also? Thanks

p.s. must be reasonably priced -rw discs, perhaps the best of the cheap brands.

If you wan't -RW then price should be no object as you are reusing them.

    Try Philips -RW

I would not recommend RITEKW DVD-RW discs, at least none of the ones sold in the USA.

TDK, Fuji (MKM, MCC), SONY ... those are good.

  4. If you must use -RW, then by all means use -RW.

However, if your drive does +RW, then choose +RW. It's much better than -RW.

Verbatim/MCC makes good +RW that are widely available.

  5. Thanks. I've read a lot of great things about Verbatim. It turns out my standalone Pioneer 533 will burn -rw at 6x speed. Most media sold in the US is 2x (ritek does have it at 4x). I've read in a post here that in the UK you can get Verbatim 6x. Too bad we can't find Verbatim 4x in the US, or atleast I can't. Thanks for the input.

p.s. I couldn't find any Fuji, TDK -rw discs either

JVC 4x -RW seems pretty good, if you can find it. I know Fry's carries it, and HH Gregg. It's available online too obviously.

  9. found some at staples for $14 after instant savings for a pack of 25 Sony dvd-rw, but it doesn't say the speed. I'm wondering if they're 1x

I've bought TDK 4x -RW 25 packs at CompUSA. Think it was about
25 bucks, but you might do better elsewhere or on sale. Haven't seen any 6x here from *any* mfr., though. I don't think it would help me if I could find it, since the burner in the 520 is 4x.

Look closer. It says "1X-4X", meaning 4X.

Hey now, no need to be rude.
I was looking at the online pictures.

So you're saying you bought some 4x at your local Staples?

  16. Uh, I just went by to Staples and picked some up. It does say in tiny letters that this is 1x-2x on the -rw, but I don't see that on the website. The +rw is 4x. Okay deal for $15.

Lordsmurf: are these MKM or MCC? Thanks

Smurf, you said you had purchased some before and you didn't see where it says 4X. Didn't mean to be rude.

Anyway, it is printed on the +RW spindles 1X-4X. Very tiny print though.

I went to 2 Staples stores for these. The first one didn't have any and the second didn't either, but a helpful employee asked if I needed help and she checked in the back and came out with 2 cases of them.
