I made a xvid from an mpeg2 program stream with ffmpegx (Video Codec: XviD [.avi] (ffmpeg) was what I used). I gave the video to someone who I think is on a PC, and he can play the video fine, but says VirtualDub can't find the decompressor for this file. He also said the FourCC code (xvid) isn't in capital letters, and maybe there would be less compatibility problems if I could use XVID instead xvid.

Another person suggested I use FourCC changer which he thought was installed with the divx codec, but he uses a PC too. I can't find that, but I found a program called AviFourCCChangerX 0.1 at macupdate:

Will the VirtualDub problem be solved with a change in the FourCC code? Should I even worry about all this?

tell them to uninstall divx & install the xvid codec, during the installation it will ask them if you want the xvid codec to handle the decompression of all fourCC codecs, tell it yes.
