Please be gentle with me as I'm new here...


I have been given a Sony RDR-GX7 DVD Recorder, the lady that gave it to me said that her cat knocked a vase of flowers over onto it and it hasn't worked since. I have inspected inside and there doesn't appear to be any evidence of water damage whatsoever (there is no grill in the top) I have powered it up there are no error messages on the display, day and time set ok when the aerial is connected. The remote control doesn't seem to operate it at all - I've done the obvious like change batteries, and it works fine in tv mode - switches my tv on/off volume up/down etc I can use the eject button on the front of the recorder and insert a prerecorded DVD and it plays fine, but won't stop or pause using either the remote or front buttons. If I insert a DVDRW it formats it OK. I can access the system menu using the button beneath the front drop down panel but then the directional button won't work on either the front or remote so I can't enter the setup menu.

Any ideas??? Don't want to send it to the tip if it's viable to repair at reasonable cost.
