  1. Hi@all!
I´ve done my 1st rip. With Smartripper and my NEC-DV5700 it takes about 4 hours to get the *.vob-files out of my DVD.
(Speed check tells me about 0,3X speed while ripping is that normal? what can I do?

Next step "DVD2Avi" runs in 30mins. Then TmpGenc lasts another 2-3 hours.

    Pleas help a newbie

  3. wow 4 hrs !!!! seem too long to me,
Have you enable DMA in your dvd drive? What is your dvd drive speed?
It is normal for DVD2avi to run 30 mins (without downsampling). I'm not sure about TMPGenc but TMPGenc 12a with pentium III 850 and 1 hour long movie should be around 5-6 hours.

    Whats your OS

    ASPI might be the problem.

    Check DMA

also make sure the disk is clean and the laser isn't having to cut through grim and then try to interpret the results.

I've got the same DVD drive as you and mine only takes about 45 mins to rip a movie. Like the others mentioned, make sure you have a working ASPI layer installed and have DMA enabled.
I only dream in black & white...

What system do you have OS? CPU? Memory?
That is the key factor of speed of ripping and decoding

Try "Ripping directly to VCD,XVCD or SVCD from the DVD-ROM. How to rip with DVDx and encode TMPGEnc" from DVD RIP

It took me less than 3 hrs to complete ripping/decoding the DVD into SVCD format.

Need help on it, READ and FOLLOW the guide carefully.
Still need help then post it on this forum
